What it is
Clinch is a contextual revenue recovery app for Shopify stores.
It spots the moment a visitor is about to leave, reads the context of what they were doing, and shows a single-use discount on the thing they were actually looking at. No email required, so it reaches the anonymous shoppers your email flows never see.
Then it does the part nobody else does: it proves whether the discount produced sales.
Who it’s for
- Shopify merchants losing most of their traffic before checkout
- Stores that discount but cannot tell whether the discount changed anything
- Anyone who wants recovery tied to an order ID, not to a dashboard number
The problem
Shopify stores lose the overwhelming majority of their visitors without a sale, and most of that loss happens before anyone reaches checkout.
Generic popup tools exist, but they are built for email capture, not revenue recovery. They show the same thing to everyone, ignore what the visitor was looking at, and have no way to connect a popup to an actual order.
How it works
- A visitor shows an exit signal on the storefront
- Clinch reads the context: page type, product being viewed, cart value, behavior
- It checks eligibility: skip if the item is already on sale, already dismissed, already converted
- It shows a context-aware discount with a unique, single-use, expiring code
- If the visitor buys, the revenue is attributed to that intervention and to a real Shopify order ID
Detect, read context, qualify, intervene, attribute. That is the whole loop.
Proof, not assumption
Every merchant has the same suspicion about discounting: that they are paying people who would have bought anyway.
Clinch holds back a share of eligible shoppers and compares conversion rates between the two groups, then reports the lift with its confidence interval, and says “collecting” instead of guessing when there is not enough data yet. It reports its own misfires too.
The measurement is the honest claim, and it is the one the code backs.
Key features
- Reaches anonymous shoppers before they leave, with no email required
- Single-use codes scoped to the product or collection the shopper viewed
- Codes that cannot be farmed or shared, and that follow the shopper
- Skips items already on sale, and a margin floor it will not cross
- Choose exactly which products are eligible
- Every recovery tied to a real Shopify order ID you can open
- Holdout testing that shows whether the discount actually increased sales
- Revenue, discount spend, and fees on a single card
Why it exists
Recovery tools are easy to sell and hard to verify. A merchant installs one, sees a number go up, and has no way to know whether that number would have happened anyway.
Clinch is built the other way around: the intervention is specific, the code is unique, the sale lands against an order ID, and the lift is measured rather than assumed. If the discount did not work, the app tells you.
Built as an embedded Shopify app with React Router 7 and Polaris, on Prisma and Postgres, with a Next.js marketing site alongside it.
